WE LOVE, LOVE LOVE MIRRORS! IMPOSING AND OVERSIZED MIRRORS, PERFECTLY ROUND MIRRORS, ANTIQUE MIRRORS, BOLD REGULAR SHAPED AND SOFTLY CURVED MIRRORS, TINY BESPOKE MIRRORS, MIRRORS FRAMED IN BURNISHED GILT, WOVEN CANE, OR THE RICH PATINA OF AGED WOOD. MIRRORS THAT PLAY A LEADING ROLE IN A ROOM’S DECOR, OR ARE JUST AS HAPPY PLAYING THE SUBTLE SUPPORT ACT.
We love the added dimension they add to a room turning a small room into something grander, that they double the joy of a beautiful view or interesting corner with their quiet reflection, the beauty of the light they duplicate from an original source whether it’s from the bright Byron Bay sunshine or a perfectly placed lamp. Sassy and dramatic, cool and nonchalant, dressy and elegant, wildly contemporary or classic in their design. We just love them all and they’re very much a part of our signature Byron Beach Abodes aesthetic. And we hunt them down from all over!
We like buying local such as the imposing and oversized mirrors from MCM House which you’ll see propped up like silent sentinels in The Chalet and Bower Cottage. We adore one-off vintage finds on Etsy such as the gorgeous collection of ivy-draped antique mirrors in The Chapel, beautifully grouped like a piece of art and paying due homage to old world charm with a delightful mix of shapes and sizes. We love unearthing dramatic statement mirrors like the stunning beauties framed with aged timbers, designs carved using centuries old artisan traditions and which feature in the Villas of Byron and The Cottage. We love stumbling on special pieces like the small mirrors which form part of the bespoke art walls in each of the rooms of the Bower Suites. By the way, Byron and the nearby Hinterland are treasure troves for pre-loved pieces like these.
And it’s not just in the living areas that our passion for mirrors is reflected. A pair of stately mirrors over a set of double bowls is such a quietly sophisticated look in a bathroom and the weathered patina of antique-look mirror like we’ve used in Magnolia House and The Chalet provide such a softness to the bathroom decor. Splashbacks in the kitchen? Why not mirrors. We’ve used them in the Bower Suites to reflect the lush greenery outside to great effect bringing the outside in and making the kitchen space feel grander. We’ve even been known to prop a special piece up in the garden to double the joy of the lush greenery you’ll find in every BBA property.
