But just like there's so much more to a BBA property than subtle layers of luxury throughout, there's so much more to Byron than the beaches - as awesome as they are! Byron and its hinterland are all about the best Mother Nature has to offer so at some point during your stay in Byron, it's worth hopping in the car and taking a short drive to Nightcap National Park and its World Heritage listed subtropical rainforests, volcanic remnants, ridges, gorges, creeks, walking tracks and the beautiful Minyon Falls. A 100m straight-down plunge waterfall with a magical and mystical swimming pool at its base, the Minyon Falls and the craggy gorge into which it falls, have links to the ancient supercontinent of Gondwana. Now that IS ancient history!
There are a number of ways to see the Falls. A 13km walk will take you deep into the misty rainforest, past smaller creeks and estuaries, en route to Repentance Creek, where its waters flow over massive rhyolite cliffs to the natural swimming hole below. Too far? There's a viewing platform, overlooking the panoramic views of the entire ancient escarpment, down the rainbow-lit Falls to the pristine waters at their base. Not adventurous enough? Take the 4km roundtrip down a steep path to the bottom of the gorge for a dip in the crystal-clear, fresh waters of Minyon Falls and just lie back and wonder at the miracle of nature. That journey might best be taken with one of the local tour groups such as Byron Bay Adventure Tours.
Of course wildlife abounds at the top and bottom of the Falls and you're bound to see a least a few goanna, bandicoots, possums, bowerbirds, whipbirds, falcons, kookaburras, the odd carpet python or two and more along the way. (We're actually not all the that fussed about coming across a python truth be known!). That aside, it really is Mother Nature at her best.
Beautiful Minyon Falls is a must-do for any visitor to Byron Bay. With its 100m straight-down plunge waterfall, a magical and mystical swimming pool at its base and the craggy gorge into which it falls linked to the ancient supercontinent of Gondwana, it’s a little piece of Mother Nature’s magic.
It’s where Dimity, blogger, foodie, a shopper who shares our love of brands such as Spell, Cultiver and Tigmi Trading, a collector of family experiences, an outdoors girl, and a creative who uses nature as her inspiration, took her husband and two wee daughters while they were holidaying recently. And the Falls got a big thumbs up from them all.
And when you get back to your BBA accom? Kick off the walking boots and take a dip in your plunge pool Villas style, splash around under the outdoor shower Chalet style or have a soak in a bath under a Byron starlit sky Cottage style. Then wrap yourself in a luscious Bemboka robe, pour yourself a drink, start nibbling away at the beautiful platter of the freshest local produce you've ordered from the in-house Gourmet Platter menu. Enjoy!
