EVER WONDER WHAT SPACES WE LOVE MOST IN OUR BEAUTIFUL BBA PROPERTIES? WHICH ELEMENTS AND DESIGN FEATURES EXCITE US MOST? OWNER/CREATIVE BEHIND BYRON BEACH ABODES, TALIAH LOWRY, SHARES THAT AND MORE ABOUT THE LUXURY BOUTIQUE HOLIDAY ACCOMMODATION SHE’S CREATED.

Always they embody everything we love most about beautiful design. It’s about infusing the signature BBA design aesthetic which is lots of layering, lots of texture, quality furnishings and fittings, a mix of old and new, a nod to character-filled pieces that have their own story to tell, artisan-produced one-offs made in centuries old tradition, lots of greenery and attention to the smallest detail whether it’s a cosy throw or just the perfect lighting.  We want each abode to feel like home away from home. Somewhere to kick off your shoes, throw off the pressures of the every day and relax into an indulgent, laid back coastal getaway.

YOUR FAVOURITE SPACE IN EACH ABODE:

MAGNOLIA HOUSE – the parents retreat with its master bedroom, private lounge area and ensuite. With its king size bed draped in luscious linen, so much natural light, a big screen TV for catching up on your fave Netflix series and MCM linen-covered couch, it’s your own luxury five star hotel room at home.

THE CHALET – the pool area. It’s got a kick-back Palm Springs holiday vibe and is a completely private, palm-filled oasis.

THE CHAPEL – the loft bedroom. It catches the morning sun through beautifully restored, etherial stained-glass windows and being a loft, you look over the balustrade to the gorgeous space below. It feels very New York loft meets laid-back coastal chic.

THE COTTAGE – the outdoor bathroom. It’s rustic but overlaid with signature BBA style. It’s so private and inviting and quite a unique experience sitting in a tin bath under the stars. So sensual feeling at one with nature!

VILLAS OF BYRON GRAND VILLA – the pool/spa and zen garden. Sitting on the outdoor daybed beside the mineral pool and spa with a backdrop of tropical rainforest, provides the perfect invitation to just relax and unwind. Total privacy. Total luxury.

VILLAS OF BYRON STANDARD VILLA – the master bedroom and ensuite. The soaring ceilings scream opulence to me. That, and I love that you can lie on the bed and chat to your partner while they luxuriate in a bath full of fragrant natural mineral salts – because the bath’s part of the bedroom too!

BOWER HOUSE – the living area. I love the spacious indoor/outdoor living spaces which are great for large groups and families. It makes for fun family meals, endless board games, and lounging together to watch a movie. Time with family is what it’s all about for us. That, and I also love that one of our favourite cafes, The Byron General Store, is literally next door!

BOWER BARN – the bathroom. Soaking in the egg-shaped bath, staring up at the palm trees and stars through the glass ceiling is such a beautiful experience. And in the daytime, it doesn’t matter if it’s sunny or cloudy, windy or raining, it’s just as beautiful.

BOWER COTTAGE – the indoor/outdoor living space. It’s what Byron Bay and coastal holidays are all about. Great fresh food, drinks, music and family in a beautifully designed outdoor space, and this one, with its large timber deck surrounded by the lushest of gardens, is wonderful.

BOWER SUITES – every suite! Growing up I always had a fascination with luxury hotel rooms as we never could afford to stay in them. What were they like? What was the experience like? The Bower Suites remind me of my fantasy hotel room as a little girl. Luxurious with an edge.

THE COTTAGE

YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN:

MAGNOLIA HOUSE – the 100 year old bricks. They’re used in the wall that encloses the pool/spa area and the backyard. We used the same bricks in the side wall and fireplace in the lounge room, which feels just like an extension of the backyard. That, and the vintage timber front doors recycled from the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney.

THE CHALET – the floor to ceiling linen draped curtain in the master bedroom leading to the ensuite. I love that it’s tied back simply with an aged leather belt.

THE CHAPEL – the custom-made industrial-style steel stairway which sits against the brick wall made from 100 year old bricks.

THE COTTAGEthe original timber lining boards on the ceiling in the hallway. We salvaged them from the original cottage walls and have left all the paint colours from the last 100 years still peeking through.

VILLAS OF BYRON GRAND VILLA – the private outdoor shower. Smooth pebbles underfoot, warm water flowing from a giant shower head, open skies above and greenery all around. Quite simply, paradise.

VILLAS OF BYRON STANDARD VILLA – the carved timber daybed on the covered balcony, with its abundance of comfy cushions and a cosy Bemboka throw rug, just in case. It screams chill out time!

BOWER HOUSE – the black timber exterior wall cladding. It reminds me so much of my travels to The Bower District in NYC which inspired the Bower design.

BOWER BARN – I just love every element of this abode but if I had to pick just one, it would be the recycled and restored deco timber windows and doors with their original mottled glass. SO much character.

BOWER COTTAGE – the fabulous cane hanging chair from Byron Bay Hanging Chairs on the verandah. It’s hard to resist grabbing a cuppa and a book and embedding yourself in it, to take time out for a few minutes or few hours.

BOWER SUITES – the collection of cushions. You can never have too many textured cushions I think, and of course they need to be in our signature palette of muted tones. And I love that each suite has its own unique collection.

YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE OF FURNITURE/DESIGN ELEMENT IN:

MAGNOLIA HOUSE – the restored antique claw foot bathtub in the master ensuite

THE CHALET – the made to order teal velvet lounge and the fringed vintage pool umbrella

THE CHAPEL – the vintage metal industrial locker we’ve repurposed as a wardrobe

THE COTTAGE – the vintage Danish green wicker coffee table on the verandah. I just love sourcing one off items to add to our abodes. They create instant character, and add to the story.

VILLAS OF BYRON GRAND VILLA – the imposing timber four-poster bed in the master bedroom

VILLAS OF BYRON STANDARD VILLA – the high-pitched vaulted ceilings lined with grass thatching. They’re up-lit at night which creates such a delicious warm glow.

BOWER HOUSE – the giant round wall mandala from Dharma Door in the lounge room. It’s hand woven by artisans in Nepal using centuries old-techniques.

BOWER BARN – the dramatic recycled exposed timber beams

BOWER COTTAGE – the bold striped wallpaper in one of the bathrooms. It provides a perfect backdrop for the fabulous patina of brass light fittings and tapware and adds the splash of personality that a house of this character commands.

BOWER SUITES – the picture walls created by the positioning of art, prints and frames curated by our wonderful design team, and unique to each Suite
